About Us

I love weddings. I never tire of the beauty and romance; of seeing couples share their love stories and making a precious memory; of the emotions, pagentry, and spectacle. It always brings me joy and I live for that.

– Mark Robertson

I love weddings because it represents what I believe – that we are created for relationship and intimacy. Officiating, to me, is a privilege and sacred assignment that I don’t take lightly and one of the most important and lovely things I have the pleasure of doing.

– Melanie Robertson

For nearly 40 years, Mark Robertson, has been a minister – now retired – and a Profession Photographer. Ordained in 1989, he has officiated many weddings over the years, but also began to photograph weddings in 1997. In 2017, Mark founded Simple I Do’s, and has presided over and photographed hundreds of Destination Elopements and Micro Weddings – even when the entire country was shut down. The Maple Grove at Smith Mill Creek grew out of a passion for weddings and a desire to turn a beautiful piece of land into a destination wedding location with multiple mini venues for ceremonies and photography.

Melanie Robertson is an Asheville native. She has enjoyed growing up and living in the mountains of western North Carolina and truly believes that it’s “God’s country.” She is a graduate of Applachian State University where she majored in education with a focus on the visual arts. She is a teacher, potter, ordained pastor, mom to Mitch (Brandy), Mary Ellen, Micah, Max (dog) and Mickey (cat), grandmother to Salyssa and Lukah,  and friend to many. An avid reader, she lives life with a passion for adventure and an insatiable appetite for learning new things.
